Valley of Shadow – The Valley

Here I have stitched the valley and its walls.  Somehow when we are in the valley, it seems like there’s no possible way out.  So I stitched the wall using parallel vertical strokes to give that feeling of being trapped beneath cliffs.

Prayer: Father, when they feel trapped in the valley, trapped in their grief, help them to remember that You are there with them.  Help them to walk with You and trust that You can lead them out.

Cat’s Project for Bella – Come on! – 1st Layout

Here’s a concept layout.  I think this is the photo you liked, and the font for Faith is Harrington.  The rest of the quote would be in plain block letters.

In 20 point, this would be 9″x6″, and is just at the limit of what I think will provide good detail on her face.

If you were willing to go finer, it could get smaller or more detailed.  Going to a larger size would also allow more detail.  Maybe standard letter size, in landscape?  Or would you want to keep the book smaller?

Cat’s Project for Bella – Hebrews 11:1

Here’s a layout of the verse for Bella.  It takes up about 175 pixels in width.   So on 20 point canvas, it would be about 9 inches wide.  I don’t know how this compares on cross-stitch fabric…

Prayer: Father, we lift Bella up to you.  Please be with her, and help her to walk with you.

Favourite Movies – Love Comes Softly

This is a very sweet movie about finding life and love again after tragedy.  It’s also about an atheist finding faith from the example of a man of great faith.  It’s not an incredibly deep movie, but it is comforting.

Amazon.com: Love Comes Softly: Katherine Heigl, Dale Midkiff, Corbin Bernsen, Skye McCole Bartusiak, Theresa Russell, Oliver Macready, Tiffany Amber Knight, Adam Loeffler, Nick Scoggin, Jaimz Woolvett, Rutanya Alda, Janet Rotblatt, Michael Landon Jr., Brian Gordon, Faye Schwab, H. Daniel Gross, Kevin Bocarde, Cindy Kelley, Janette Oke: Movies & TV.

My favourite line from the movie is the one which gives it its name: Sometimes love isn’t fireworks, sometimes love just comes softly.

Favourite Movies – Signs

A movie about rediscovering faith…

Amazon.com: Signs: Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, Clifford David, Lanny Flaherty, Rory Culkin, Babita Hariani, Cherry Jones, Patricia Kalember, Marion McCorry, Paul L. Nolan, Rhonda Overby, Kevin Pires, Michael Showalter, Ted Sutton, Ukee Washington, Adam Way, Merritt Wever, Greg Wood: Movies & TV.

One of the cool things about M. Night Shyamalan’s movies is that they are often not about what they seem to be on the surface.  Or at least, not just about that.  Signs is ostensibly an alien horror movie.  But it is so much not just that.

It is a movie about faith.

About its loss.

About its rediscovery.

About how hard it is to live without.

After the death of his wife in tragic circumstances, Grahame is determined not to believe any more.

But under pressure, what happens?

Valley of Shadow – Treeline

To stitch the treeline at the front of the valley, I chose to use a primarily vertical stitch of varying lengths.  This gives the look of dense pine forest.

Prayer: Father, in their darkest moments, help them remember that You are with them.  Help them to feel you love and accept your comfort.

Valley of Shadow – Stitching the Words

The words are designed to be stitched using the “standard” needlepoint stitch – tent stitch.  Here I have stitched the words first.

I pray, “Father, be a light for them in their grief.  Be with them, and help them to know that.”
